DAY 4:                         VISIT TO TOURIST CENTRES

Introduction:

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Association of Vice Chancellors’ of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) Conference, 2011, has organized to take interested persons to designated tourist centres in Ota and its environs. The visit to any of these designated tourist locations would hold between 7-10am on the 4th day of the Conference.

Our visitors are encouraged to seize this unique opportunity to know the geo-physical environment of this area better and have a lasting memory of the Conference.

To this end, interested persons are kindly advised to select and register for any one of the underlisted location. Please note that the condition for making this tour visible is based on minimum registration of 10 persons per each location.

The designated tourist centres are:-

  • Olumo Rock / Tie & Dye locations, Abeokuta
  • Badagry Tourist Locations, Lagos state
  • Olota’s Palace, Ota
  • Tour of Canaan land and the University

Description of the Sites:

A. Olumo Rock /Tie Dye Locations

  • About 45mins drive from Ota
  • Located in the heart of Abeokuta ancient city, Ogun State
  • Reserved and secure
  • Elevator/ stairway facilities
  • Overview of the city
  • Hall for entertainment/ Refreshment
  • Parking Space
  • Camera usage allowe

B. Tie &Dye Location

  • Close to Olumo Rock
  • Opportunity to ask and know about its production
  • Opportunity to purchase sewn and unsewn materials
  • Availability of raw materials

       C. Badagry Tourist Sites

  • About 1 hour drive from Ota
  • Sites located in Badagry, Lagos state
  • The first-Storey Building in Nigeria
  • The slave site and evacuation route
  • The Beach

D. Locations in Ota

  • Visit to the traditional monarch- the palace of Olota of Ota
  • Visit of major centres within Canaan land
  • The largest church auditorium with 50 000 seating capacity built within a year
  • EDS centres (fish pond, snail farming, sewing centre etc)
  • The computerized Centre for Learning Resources
